Install the Extension, open up Google Meet in your Chrome browser, then tap on the puzzle-piece icon in the far upper-right corner. Select the extension and choose your options. If you select the Auto-Mute option everyone will be muted automatically.

How do I use meet mute extension?
Install the extension and go to the Google Meet tab. Click the little speaker button next to the address bar to mute the site. You will see a small Speaker appear on the icon to indicate that the tab is muted. To unmute the tab, simply click the button again.
Can you force mute on Google meet?
If you want to go ahead and mute them, click or tap on the “Mute” button. The person's microphone will be turned off (muted), and everyone in the meeting will be notified. Remember, only the person that has been muted can unmute themselves.

Applicable for video calls organized by Google Workspace users only. Phone participants press *6 to mute or unmute their phone. If someone else mutes you, you can only unmute if you press *6.
Why can't I mute my students on Google meet?
The reason you have no option to 'mute' or 'remove' others is due to you not being the 'owner' of the Meet. A Meet is not owned by the first person to 'join' the Meet, but the first person, with permissions, to 'open' the Meet.
